Here is a copy of the brief personal statement requested with the images:

Dear Eddie Adams Team:
Thank you for helping young photographers realize their dreams! I hope I might be selected to be a part of this amazing workshop. Now, about me: I took photography electives in college in film and digital photography basics, darkroom, printing, and color fundamentals. I graduated with a BS in Mass Communications from Boston University and I managed a photography studio for a year after graduating. I have also taken a few workshops for amateurs. These images are shot with a Nikon D40, a cell phone camera, and a 35 mm Nikon. My vision as a photographer is to make visual poems. A poem is the perfect marriage of form and function. It is meaningful in what it says, and beautiful in how it says it. I want my photographs to be the same. I want them to capture meaningful moments, and do it in ways that are visually beautiful. I try to use visual elements like lines, shapes, color and texture to achieve this beauty.  These elements function in the same way as metaphors, similes, or rhythm do in a poem. Another thing I love about poetry is that a poem captures simultaneously the overall essence of an idea and the nuances. I want my pictures to do the same. At a glance I want them to communicate emotion, but with a longer look, I want details to appear that offer more meaning. I try to use abstraction to create these dual levels of complexity.
My goal for attending this workshop is to learn technical skills that will enhance my goal of creating visual poetry.  I also hope learn about the visions of other photographers, their goals and dreams, and passions.  I look forward to the results of being challenged to the point of exhaustion.
Thank you again for all you do.

 Sincerely,
Amanda Lomax
